A grand café-restaurant with docking facilities to the small river Eem, just outside the city centre of Amersfoort. The new building takes the original silhouette and is in the same place as the former 16th-century warehouse “'t Spijkertje” (‘the Nail’), which had to be demolished because of its poor condition.
The shape is reminiscent of the past but the image of the future. The building is transparent and light, made possible by modern techniques. The frame is a steel skeleton carefully welded together. A glass tent is literally hung under and off the steel skeleton.
The project is a part of the adding of new layers to the collective memory of the city.
